Chapter 29

In chapter 29, Niang has just died and her will has been read. Adeline received nothing from Niang, but her sister, who was disowned, got 10 percent of her fortunes. Susan, Adeline's half sister has appalled by this and tells her that it's not okay for Niang to treat her like it. Adeline's brother, James, told her the reason she wasn't in the will was because she wasn't grateful to her parents for putting her through medical school, and she wanted to move her father to an apartment. James had tried giving Adeline, Niang's flat; she wanted no part in it because she knew he was trying to buy her off. Adeline and her husband, Bob, met James and his wife at their flat, along with Gregory and Edgar to discuss the will, all three brothers felt that is was unfair to Adeline to receive nothing. They all decided to contribute five percent of their earnings to Adeline, they asked Lydia but she was going to make Adeline do a full confession for something she didn't do. What I think will happen in the next chapter is: Adeline is going to go to Niang's flat and find her Father's will and other stuff that she wasn't supposed. I think she will find something's wrong with her father's will, that Niang fixed to much of it. I also think that Adeline and her sister, Lydia, will get in a huge fight over the money issue. The impact of this chapter on today's society is that you should always treat people respectfully especially when they do everything they can to help you in tough times. This chapter also tells you that you can't be two faced and expect no one to get hurt or get away with it. The mood is this chapter is very depressing because Adeline has tried so hard to earn the respect of Niang, and then when she dies she leaves her out of her father's and her own will. Even her own sister, Lydia, has betrayed her and convinced Niang that she was bad and up to no good, she then wanted Adeline to confess to her when there was nothing to be confessed.
